1 Explain the various categories of
Retail Warehousing.
Answer
: The warehouse is the most common type of storage though other forms do exist
(e.g., storage tanks, computer server farms). Some warehouses are massive
structures that simultaneously support the unloading of numerous in-bound
trucks and railroad cars containing suppliers’ products while at the same time
loading multiple trucks for shipment to customers.
Below we discuss five types of
warehouses:

2 “Customer service is a central
concern of logistics academics and practitioners”. Explain the statement in the
light of priorities and standards of logistics.
Answer : Logistics
is the management of the flow of goods between the point of origin and the point
of consumption in order to meet some requirements, of customers or
corporations. The resources managed in logistics can include physical items,
such as food, materials, animals, equipment and liquids, as well as abstract
items, such as time, information, particles, and energy. The logistics of
physical items usually involves the integration of information flow, material
handling, production, packaging, inventory, transportation, warehousing, and
often security. The complexity of logistics can be modeled, analyzed,
visualized, and optimized by dedicated simulation software. The minimization of
the use of resources is a common motivation in logistics for import and export.
Logistics

prominent, driving demand for transport systems that are adequate, reliable,
ecologically friendly and safe. In cities especially, however, prevailing
transport infrastructures often cannot be readily modernised due to a host of
economic, historical, environmental, political and other restraints. We have to
look,
5 Explain the various steps involved
in understanding the functional approach to demand forecasting.
Answer : Demand
forecast is the cross functional document that is aligned for the incoming
period. The Sales forecasting methods should involve all stakeholders, not just
sales department. Although the sales can set volume targets, they can be
unrealistic in some cases. They can be higher or lower than real demand, due to
tactical reasons, but they can also be reflection of wishful thinking than the
real demand forecast.
Unrealistic
demand forecast can create serious consequences along the organization. If the
demand is estimated too high than is real demand, there is a
6 Explain the various factors which influence
Network Design Decisions
Answer
: Supply chain network design decisions include the location of manufacturing,
storage or transportation related facilities and the allocation of capacity and
roles to each facility. Supply chain network design decisions are facility role
(what role each facility play?), facility location, capacity allocation and
market & supply allocation.
