Q. 1. Explain
the methods to be adopted for hazard reduction.
Answer: Most treatment measures have
both physical and chemical aspects. The appropriate treatment technology for
the hazardous wastes depends on the nature of the wastes. The type of physical
treatment to be applied to wastes depends strongly upon the physical properties
of the material treated, including the state of matter, solubility in water and
organic solvents, density, volatility, boiling point and melting point.
Physical Treatment Methods:Various
physical treatment methods adopted in industry are: adsorption, resin
adsorption, sedimentation, electro dialysis, reverse osmosis, solvent
extraction, distillation, evaporation and filtration.
Q. 2. Explain
earthquake Prevention, Management and Preparedness Strategy.
Answer:In the Earthquake Preparedness Strategy,
the City identified actions to help prepare for an earthquake. We have further
identified eight high-priority actions that are the most important to address.

Q. 3. What
are the key issues arising from the management of solid waste following
disasters? Explain.

electrical wiring, carelessness and ignorance etc. It can lead to serious fire
and fatal accidents, if proper instructions are not followed. Such incidents
can be minimized to a great extent if adequate fire precautions are observed.
Electricalfires spread rapidly especially in buildings and cause loss of lives
and property. It is, therefore, necessary to act fast. Raise an alarm for help.
Switch off power supply to de-energise the equipment. Use drysand, CO2,
