efficiency and effectiveness and in particular, the conduct of the two key
managerial activities of planning and control.

required to deal with every aspect of a situation and achieve an end result. They
subject complex situations to close and systematic examination and
Q2. Explain the types of epidemiological studies. Add a note on mortality
profile of India.
Answer: Epidemiology is the study of diseases in large
number of humans or other animals, in particular how, when and where they
occur. Epidemiologists endeavour to determine what factors are related with
diseases (risk factors), and what factors may protect people or animals against
disease (protective factors). The science of epidemiology was first developed
to discover and understand possible causes of contagious diseases like
smallpox, typhoid and polio among humans. It has expanded to include the study

Q. 3 Discuss the steps in
disaster management.
Answer: Disaster management
(or emergency management) is the creation of plans through which communities
reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters.
8 Steps to disaster recovery planning
Step 1 in
disaster recovery planning: organize the disaster recovery planning team. The
team should consist of a primary representative and an alternate from each
participating department. Organizing the disaster recovery team begins by
creating a group consisting of members that represent all functions of the organization.
The team must also include a high-level manager, or CEO, to endorse the plan
and eliminate obstacles. The team should attend training by a reputable source
in disaster recovery. Once arranged, the team will start an awareness campaign
Q.4: Describe the guidelines of International
Health Regulations with regard to ports, airports and ground crossings.
Answer: The International Health
Regulations (IHR) are an international legal instrument that is binding on 196
countries across the globe, including all the Member States of WHO. Their aim
is to help the international community prevent and respond to acute public
health risks that have the potential to cross borders and threaten people
worldwide.
The IHR, which entered into force on 15
June 2007, require countries to report certain disease outbreaks and public
health events to WHO. Building on the unique experience of WHO in global
disease surveillance, alert and response, the IHR define the rights and
obligations of countries to report public health events, and establish a number
of procedures that WHO must follow in its work to uphold global public health
security.
Q.5:
Explain the various government programs for nurturing newborns.
Answer: In India, around 46 per cent of
all children below the age of three are too small for their age, 47 per cent
are underweight and at least 16 per cent are wasted. Many of these children are
severely malnourished.
Mother
and Child Nutrition: More than half of all child
deaths are associated with malnutrition, which weakens the body's resistance to
illness. Poor diet, frequent illness, and inadequate or inattentive care of
young children can lead to malnutrition.
If a woman is malnourished during
pregnancy, or if her child is malnourished during the first two years of life,
the child's physical and mental growth and development may be slowed. This
cannot be made up when the child is older – it will affect the child for the
rest of his
Q6. Enumerate the determinants
of health.
Answer : 1. Income and Social
Status - Health status
improves with prosperity and social standing. High income determines
living conditions such as safe housing and ability to buy sufficient good food.
A number of studies show that limited options and poor coping skills
for dealing with stress increase vulnerability to a range of diseases through
