Long Answer
Questions: (Total: 20 marks) Marks…….
Answer the
following questions: (10 marks each)
Question. 1.What is planning? In
your opinion, what are the probable reasons for failure of a plan?
Answer:
Planning may be defined as deciding in advance what to be done in future. It is
the process of thinking before doing. It involves determination of goals as
well as the activities required to be undertaken to achieve the goals. In the
planning process managers anticipate the future and accordingly decide what
activities must be undertaken. Planning deciding in advance – What to do, How
to do, When and by whom.
When it comes to planning, many issues arise.
However, if the enterprise does not understand the need for the plan and show
some dedication, the issues will remain intact. Therefore, the first part of
acting on any issue is to understand what is the actual base behind it and then
move on to the solution.

Short Answer
Questions: (Total: 20 marks) Marks…..
Answer the
following questions: (5 marks each)
Question. 1.Define the term management. Describe management is a
science or an art.
Answer: What is management?
Management
is the coordination and administration of tasks to achieve a goal. Such
administration activities include setting the organization’s strategy and coordinating
the efforts of staff to accomplish these objectives through the application of
available resources. Management can also refer to the seniority structure of
staff members within an organization.
Management is considered as art and science. The art of
managing begins where Science of managing stops to make management complete.
Question. 2.Write in brief about span of control in management.
Answer: The concept of
"span of control," also known as management ratio, refers to the
number of subordinates controlled directly by a superior. It is a particularly
important concept for small business owners to understand because small
businesses often get into trouble when the founder ends up with too wide a span
of control. Span of control is a topic taught in management schools and widely
employed in large organizations like the military, government agencies, and
educational institutions.
When a small business owner's span of
control becomes too large, it can limit the growth of his or her company. Even
the best managers tend to lose
Question. 3.Distinguish between strategic and tactical planning.
Answer: A strategic plan supports the organization's
vision and mission statements by outlining the high-level plan to achieve both.
Strategic plans generally provide the broad, long-term picture. In order to
develop strategic plans, top management uses reports on finances,
operations and the external environment to project future actions. Strategic
plans influence the development of tactical plans.
A tactical plan
answers "how do we achieve our strategic plan?" It outlines actions
to achieve short-term goals, generally within a year or less. They are much
narrower in focus and can be broken down into the departmental or unit level.
Tactical
Question. 4.What is leadership? Discuss Laisses Faire style of
leadership in brief.
Answer: Laissez-faire leadership
is based on trust. People who enjoy a wide degree of latitude in making
decisions and working on projects autonomously are often most comfortable with
laissez-faire leaders.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, people who work well in a rigid
environment with clear directives and routine goals typically prefer
authoritarian leaders.
