Very recently, the government of India decided to ban 118 Chinese apps, including PUBG and TikTok, under section 69A of the IT Act, 2020 on the pretext of threat to national security and concerns related to data privacy of Indian citizens. With this, the total count of the number of banned Chinese mobile apps in New Delhi has reached 224. This move by the government of the country came amidst rising border tensions between China and eastern Ladakh.

India has been very progressive over the last two decades in the formulation of a strong intellectual property rights policy. For instance, India became a signatory of the TRIPS (Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Rights) agreement in the year 1995.

 

 

Here’s a simple breakdown of Intellectual property rights:  

Ø  Patents protect inventions of tangible things.

Ø  Copyrights protect various forms of written and artistic expression.

Ø  Trademarks protect a name or symbol identifying the source of goods or services.

Ø  Trade secrets protect secret processes, distribution methods, and other confidential information.
