Answers for 5 mark questions should not

Q. 1. Write a long note on Feature writing
(3 marks), its structure (3 marks) and the techniques ofwriting a good feature
(4 marks).
Answer: Features are not meant to deliver the news firsthand. They do contain
elements of news, but their main function is to humanize, to add colour, to
educate, to entertain, to illuminate. They often recap major news that was
reported in
Q. 2. How can one write Radio Talks?
Elucidate.
Answer: Writing for radio is different than writing for print. You’re writing for
the ear, not the eye. Listeners have to get it the first time around- they
can’t go back and hear it again (unlike re-reading a sentence in a magazine).
And while a reader may get up and come back to an article, a radio listener who
gets up may not come back. So you want to grab their attention and hold onto it
for as long as possible. Writing feature stories like the ones aired on B-Side
is also different than writing news copy. You can loosen up a little. You can
be more literary, more creative, more personal. This handout is a quick guide
to writing a script
Answer: It is useful to think of organising a story in three acts. The first act
(often three to five pages of a 30-minute script) sets up the major story of
the episode, and introduces the major sub-plot. The final act (again, three to
five pages) resolves both main plot and sub-plot. The middle act develops the
narrative but also pushes things off into an unexpected direction. The audience
should always want to know what is going to happen next, and be intrigued.
