Question. 1. Write a short note on concept of visual merchandising And objectives of visual merchandising.

a) Concept of visual merchandising

Answer: Visual merchandise is the presentation of a store and its merchandise in such a manner that will attract the attention of potential customers. It involves decorating the store keeping the interior presentation the same as what is promised on the outside.

The end purpose of visual merchandise is to aid in making a sale. Visual merchandise presents an image of whom or what the shopper can be when using the merchandise displayed.



b) Objectives of visual merchandising

Answer: The art of visual merchandising has evolved from a role as store beautifier to one of sales support. According to Iowa State University, it is the second most important factor affecting store success. Retailers rely on visual merchandising to reinforce their store's image, improve customer service, increase sales and create a pleasant shopping experience. Visual merchandising demands constant attention to sustain shopper interest and repeat business.

Store Image: Visual merchandising elements -- decor, logo and interior design -- set a retail store's image, or brand identity, and distinguish the business from its competition. Lighting, fixtures, music, color and product placement work together


Question. 2. Explain in detail Merchandise line and Assortment Strategy.

Answer: Issues such as what merchandise to purchase and in what quantity, are of strategic significance to every retailer, especially for the multi-store retail chains of today. For decisions on these matters, a thorough plan called a merchandise assortment plan, has to be adopted. First, the merchandise is split into categories


Question. 3. Write a note on Future Prospects of Visual Merchandising.

Answer: Visual merchandising both past & present is witness to many examples of beautiful and perfectly implemented displays both in windows and internally throughout the store.

The techniques, skills and creativity continue to develop into an ongoing master class on the question of “how?” to display, always advancing, improving and making use of new technologies and materials.
