1 Write a long note on the Romantic Age of poetry. Discuss who were some of the most important poets of the period.

Answer: Romantic poetry is the poetry of Romanticism, a philosophical, literary, artistic and cultural era which reacted against the prevailing Enlightenment ideals of the day in favor more natural, emotional, and personal artistic themes. Answer: Shakespeare's Sonnets is the title of a collection of 154 sonnets accredited to William Shakespeare which cover themes such as the passage of time, love, beauty and mortality. It was first published in a 1609 quarto with the full stylised title: SHAKE-SPEARES SONNETS. Never before Imprinted. (although sonnets 138 and 144 had previously been published in the 1599 miscellany The Passionate Pilgrim). The quarto ends with "A Lover's Complaint", a narrative poem of 47 seven-line stanzas written in rhyme royal.

6 Discuss the major epics The Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid.

Answer: The Aeneid is an epic poem written in 12 books and is modeled in part on the great Greek epic poems, on Homer's Iliadand Odyssey, and on Apollonius' Argonautica. The Iliad describes the exploits of Achilles and other Greek heroes in the Trojan War (the same war which forced Aeneas to leave Troy and is described in Book II of the Aeneid) whilst the Odyssey describes how Ulysses (or Odysseus in Greek) wandered for many years, trying to return home after the Trojan War.
