Question.1. Write short notes on:

a. Production Management

Answer:Production Management refers to the application of management principles to the production function in a factory. In other words, production management involves application of planning, organizing, directing and controlling the production process.



b. Objectives of Operations Management

Answer:An operation may be defined as the process of changing inputs into outputs thereby adding value to some entity. Right quality, right quantity, right time and right price are the four basic requirements of the customers and as such they determine the extent of customer satisfaction.  And if these can be provided at a minimum cost, then the value of goods produced or services rendered increases.




c. Reverse Engineering

Answer:Reverse engineering, also called back engineering, is the processes of extracting knowledge or design information from anything man-made and re-producing it or re-producing anything based on the extracted information. The process often involves disassembling something (a mechanical device, electronic component, computer program, or biological, chemical, or organic matter) and analyzing its components and workings in detail.



d. Production Planning and Control

Answer:For efficient, effective and economical operation in a manufacturing unit of an organization, it is essential to integrate the production planning and control system. Production planning and subsequent production control follow adaption of product design and finalization of a production process.

Production planning and control address a fundamental problem of low productivity, inventory management and resource utilization.




Question.2. What is the purpose of sales forecasting? Explain following methods of time series analysis for forecasting:

a. Simple average method

Answer:It is a method for inventory valuation or delivery cost calculation, where even if accepting inventory goods with different unit cost, the average unit cost is calculated by multiplying the total of these unit costs simply by the number of receiving. b. Moving average method

Answer: A moving average is a technique to get an overall idea of the trends in a data set; it is an average of any subset of numbers. The moving average is extremely useful for forecasting long-term trends. You can calculate it for any period of time. For example, if you have sales data for a twenty-year period, you can calculate a five-year



c. Exponential smoothing

Answer:Exponential smoothing is a rule of thumb technique for smoothing time series data, particularly for recursively applying as many as three low-pass filters with exponential window functions. Such techniques have broad application


d. Trend projections

Answer:Trend forecasting is a complicated but useful way to look at past sales or market growth, determine possible trends from that data and use the information to extrapolate what could happen in the future. Marketing experts

Answer:Companies and organizations making products and delivering, be it for profit or not for profit, rely on a handful of processes to get their products manufactured properly and delivered on time. Answer:Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) was first developed in 1958 by USA Navy special project office and a management consulting firm for planning and control of the Polaris sub-marine missile project.
