Q. 1. Define medical ethics. List the
principles of medical ethics and outline the
important guidelines and documents in
medical ethics.
Answer:Medical ethics is a system of moral principles that apply values and
judgments to the practice of medicine. As a scholarly discipline, medical
ethics encompasses its practical application in clinical settings as well as
work on its history, philosophy, theology, and sociology. Many so-called
"ethical conflicts" in medical ethics are traceable back to a lack of
communication. Communication breakdowns between patients and their healthcare
team, between family members, or between members of the medical community, can
all lead to disagreements and strong feelings. These breakdowns should be
remedied, and many
Q. 2. Discuss accountability in healthcare.
Add a note on vicarious liability.
Answer:Accountability has become a major issue in health care. Accountability
entails the procedures and processes by which one party justifies and takes
responsibility for its activities.
The concept of accountability contains
three essential components:
1) the loci of accountability--health care
consists of at least 11 different parties that can be held accountable or hold
others accountable;
2) the domains of accountability--in health
care, parties can be held accountable for as many as six activities:
professional competence, legal and

·
The
psychology of how consumers think, feel, reason, and select between different
alternatives (e.g., brands, products, and retailers);

Q. 4. Define abortion. Explain medical
termination of pregnancy act in detail.
Answer: Definitions of abortion vary from one source to another. Abortion has
many definitions that can differ from each other in significant ways. Given the
contentious nature of abortion, lawmakers and other stakeholders often face
controversy in defining abortion. Language referring to abortion often reflects
societal and political opinions (not only scientific knowledge). Influential
non-state actors like the United Nations and the Roman Catholic Church have
also engendered controversy over efforts to define abortion. Late termination
of pregnancy is the term usually used for later uterine evacuation.
Q. 5. Explain the regulatory requirements
in setting up and running a blood bank.
Explanation of the important
regulatoryrequirements in setting up and running a bloodbank.
Answer:There are representations from some of our colleagues who may not be
medical doctors but are sufficiently equipped with knowledge possessing PhD
degree and working in Transfusion Medicine for many years. What is the “medical
need” of a medical doctor in a blood bank? Arguably, it is to take care of
whole blood and aphaeresis donors, which needs medical attention. However, a
medical doctor can work in all sections of the blood banks. If you look at the
management of the blood centers (Red Cross or Community) in western countries,
they are usually headed by non-medical managers like pharmacist or MBA.
Q. 6. Define and classify euthanasia. Add a
note on living wills.
Answer:Euthanasiais the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to
relieve pain and suffering. There are different euthanasia laws in each
country. The British House of Lords Select Committee on Medical Ethics defines
euthanasia as "a deliberate intervention undertaken with the express
intention of ending a life, to relieve intractable suffering". In the
Netherlands and Flanders, euthanasia is understood as "termination of life
by a doctor at the request of a patient". Euthanasia is categorized in
different ways, which include voluntary, non-voluntary, or involuntary.
Voluntary euthanasia is legal in some countries, U.S. states, and Canadian
Provinces. Non-voluntary euthanasia is illegal in all countries. Involuntary
euthanasia is usually considered murder. As of 2006, euthanasia is the most
active area of research in contemporary bioethics.
Classification of euthanasia
Euthanasia may be classified according to
whether a person gives informed consent into three types: voluntary,
non-voluntary and involuntary. There is a debate within the medical and
bioethics literature about whether or not the non-
