Question.1. Define Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Briefly explain the major benefits of anERP system.

Answer:Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a category of business-management software—typically a suite of integrated applications—that an organization can use to collect, store, manage and interpret data from many business activities, including:

·         Product planning, purchase
·         Manufacturing or service delivery
·         Marketing and sales
·       Inventory management

Question.2. Write short notes on the following:

a. Decision Support System (DSS)

Answer:A decision support system (DSS) is a computer-based information system that supports business or organizational decision-making activities. DSSs serve the management, operations, and planning levels of an organization (usually mid and higher management) and help people make decisions about problems that may be rapidly changing and not easily specified in advance—i.e. Unstructured and Semi-Structured decision problems




b. Executive Information System (EIS)

Answer:An executive information system (EIS), also known as an executive support system (ESS), is a type of management information system that facilitates and supports senior executive information and decision-making needs. It provides easy access to internal and external information relevant to organizational goals. It is commonly considered a specialized form of decision support system (DSS).




c. Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

Answer:Customer relationship management (CRM) is an approach to managing a company's interaction with current and potential future customers. The CRM approach tries to analyse data about customers' history with a company, to improve business relationships with customers, specifically focusing on customer retention,



d. Management Information System (MIS)

Answer:A management information system (MIS) focuses on the management of information systems to provide efficiency and effectiveness of strategic decision making. The concept may include systems termed transaction




Question.3. Explain the different phases of an ERP implementation life cycle.

Answer:ERP (Enterprise Resource planning) covers the technique and concepts employed for the integrated management of business as a whole, from the viewpoint of the effectiveness use of management resources, to improve the efficiency of an enterprise. ERP packages are integrated software packages that support the above ERP concepts.




Question.4. Explain the role of manufacturing and production planning module of an ERP system. Briefly explain the sub-modules of the manufacturing module.

Answer:Enterprise Resource Planning System(ERP), just by considering name we can simply define ERP as  System or software that used to manage all the resources of whole enterprise. Right from employee payments to single screw coming into the enterprise, everything can be managed & tracked by using ERP Systems. ERP is a cross functional software that supports all the business processes within the organization.



Question.5. Explain the role of ERP in sales and distribution.
Briefly explain the sub-modules of the sales and distribution module.

Answer:TO keep pace with rapid changes in the business world, companies need an integrated and flexible enterprise system that supports all aspects of their business with state-of-the-art functionality. This innovative solution should upgrade effortlessly and interface easily with third-party applications as well as have the ability to incorporate existing systems while extending its reach to the Internet and e-commerce.



Question.6. Define the role of vendors and consultants in ERP implementation.

Answer:Initially, organizations were skeptical about ERP since they felt that their businesses were unique and their cultures different. As time passed and their business problems became more pressing, they started looking at ERP as the panacea for their woes. In their urgency, they were expecting miracles, Unfortunately this doesn’t happen most of the time, leaving users frustrated which in turn, leads to poor participation and costly
