Note: Answer all questions. Kindly note that
answers for 10 marks questions should be approximately of 400 words. Each
question is followed by evaluation scheme.
Question.1.
Explain medical billing process in healthcare organisations.
Answer:The medical billing process is not undertaken by a single individual.
Medical coding involves front office administrators, such as receptionists, as
well as back office staff, including the medical biller and coder. It is
important to understand every step of this process if you intend to pursue a
career in medical billing and coding. For the purposes of this lesson, we will
cover the end-to-end process of medical billing as a whole, and not just the
responsibilities of the biller and coder.
The primary job of medical billing
specialists is to:
Question.2.
Explain cost allocation in healthcare organizations.
Answer:Cost accounting in healthcare has never been more important, but is often
considered too difficult, expensive or resource intensive for many healthcare
organizations. Additionally, other critical applications such as EMRs have been
the primary focus and resource drain over the last decade. However, our
industry is undergoing significant change and pressure is coming from all
stakeholders to lower the cost of healthcare. For those
Question.3.
Throw light on the incentives available for healthcare sector under the Income
Tax Act.
Answer:The concerned division of the Department of Revenue, in a quiet
announcement on the department’s own website, has stated that various tax
incentives and deductions under the Income Tax Act are being reviewed, and in
this regard it would like to invite comments “with supporting rationale” for
their removal or continuance.
But the manner in which the notice has been
put up leaves much to be desired. The notice states that “the Government is
keen to involve all stakeholders in this exercise.” If it is so keen, how come
no one has heard of this quiet exercise? Even D.N.I.S. got this information
very late. If the concerned department was genuinely looking for views, the
announcement
Question.4.
Explain budgeting techniques in healthcare services.
Answer:During the last decade there has been a recognition that all health care
systems, public and private, are characterised by perverse incentives (especially
moral hazard and third party pays) which generate inefficiency in the use of
scarce economic resources. Inefficiency is unethical: doctors who use resources
inefficiently deprive potential patients of care from which they could benefit.
To eradicate unethical and inefficient practices two economic rules have to be
followed: (i) no service should be provided if its total costs exceed its total
benefits; (ii) if total benefits exceed total costs, the level of provision
should be at that level at
Question.5.
Explain different methods of evaluation of healthcare services.
Answer:Health care evaluation is the critical assessment, through rigorous
processes, of an aspect of healthcare to assess whether it fulfils its
objectives. Aspects of healthcare which can be assessed include:
·
Effectiveness
– the benefits of healthcare measured by improvements in health
·
Efficiency
– relates the cost of healthcare to the outputs
Question.6.
Explain the importance of healthcare planning. Add a note of types of
healthcare planning.
Answer:Health care or healthcare is the maintenance or improvement of health via
the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, illness, injury, and other
physical and mental impairments in human beings. Health care is delivered by
health professionals (providers or practitioners) in allied health professions,
chiropractic, physicians, physician associates, dentistry, midwifery, nursing,
medicine, optometry, pharmacy, psychology, and other health professions. It
includes the work done in providing primary care, secondary care, and tertiary
