What is work measurement? Discuss the various techniques of work measurement.
Answer:Work measurement is the application of techniques designed to establish
the time for an average worker to carry out a specified manufacturing task at a
defined level of performance. It is concerned with the length of time it takes
to complete a work task assigned to a specific job .

Explain the meaning and characteristics of a product.
Answer:A good, idea, method, information, object or service created as a result
of a process and serves a need or satisfies a want. It has a combination of
tangible and intangible attributes (benefits, features, functions, uses) that a
seller offers a buyer for purchase. For example a seller of a toothbrush not
only offers the physical product but also the idea that the consumer will be
improving the health of their teeth.

Define the Process of Production Planning and Control
Answer:The four stages or steps in production planning and control are:

What do you understand by the term ‘inventory’? Explain various types of
inventories.
Answer:Businesses function due to many variables. Customer satisfaction is
agreeably the most important; without customers there exists no business. So
what is needed to ensure customers? A constant availability of supply is first
and foremost. Supply and Demand- to create demand, you need to have a supply.
So what keeps the supply up? Inventory systems. Without proper inventory, you
cannot be sure how much product you have and therefore may not be prepared to
fill orders. Managing supply chain is important in all businesses.

Explain the Process of Quality Control.
Answer:Quality control, or QC for short, is a process by which entities review
the quality of all factors involved in production. ISO 9000 defines quality
control as "A part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality
requirements".

Alfred Weber’s theory of industrial location
Answer:Alfred Weber formulated a theory of industrial location in which an
industry is located where the transportation costs of raw materials and final
product is a minimum. He singled out two special cases. In one the weight of
the final product is less than the weight of the raw material going into making
the product. This is the weight losing case. In the other the final product is
heavier than the raw material that require transport. Usually

individual industries are of relative significance, e.g., availability of raw
materials, power resources, water, labour, markets and the transport

Answer:The concept of plant layout is not static but dynamic one. It is on
account of continuous manufacturing and technological improvements taking place
necessitating quick and immediate changes in production processes and designs.
A new layout may be necessary because of technological changes in the products
as well as simple change in processes, machines, methods and materials”.
